LSU and Clemson will kick off next college football season with an exciting matchup at Memorial Stadium.

FanDuel listed some early matchups for the 2025 season and this August 30th contest looks like a good one. Clemson opened up as a favorite over LSU.

The current odds list Clemson as a 2.5 point favorite and are -137 on the money line. LSU is listed at +114 on the money line and the total is 56.5 points.

LSU capped off the 2024 season with a Texas Bowl win over Baylor, missing out on this year’s 12-team playoff.

While Brian Kelly’s program fell short of their championship aspirations this past season, it still won nine games and capped its campaign off with a solid win while giving some younger players a chance behind the wheel against the Bears. That gives Kelly confidence moving forward that LSU can compete for a title in 2025.

“It’s been really fun to coach this team,” Kelly said. “I know, you know, cynics would say it was disappointing. It wasn’t disappointing. It was a team that was less than perfect because of inexperience. A team that that gained experience. We still played with six true freshmen and a red shirt freshman most of the time on defense. And they kept battling. So, you know, to win nine games, and win three in a row at the end — just happy for our football team.

“Again, you know, the nine guys that came back and finished what they started, and I have — look, I’m 100% behind the guys that didn’t play, for whatever the reasons are. They’re valid. But the nine that were here, I want to be able to trumpet them as well, because finishing what you start is important as well, so happy with the victory.”

Clemson early favorites over LSU in 2025

Clemson won the ACC this season and made the College Football Playoff. However, they fell short to Texas in the first round.

Still, the consistency is evident, according to head coach Dabo Swinney.

“You know, I think it’s important to step back from emotional things,” Swinney said. “And, you know, keep a good perspective on the good, the bad, but evaluate you always set your eyes forward on what you got to do to get better. We’ve been to seven CFPs in the past 10 years, six Final Fours, four final twos, and two national championships.

“And I’ve won this league eight out of the last 10 years. So we’ve done a lot of great things, and we’ve created, you know, a high standard and high expectations. And so again, there’s not a program out there that’s been more consistent than us, and we’re really proud of that.”

Swinney is 180-47 in his career with Clemson since 2008. They won national championships in 2016 and ‘18 and have made the College Football Playoff seven times, including this season with the new 12-team iteration.
