Cleveland Browns select LSU kicker Cade York in 2022 NFL Draft
Cade York is heading to the NFL. The former LSU kicker heard his name called on Saturday.
The Cleveland Browns selected York as the No. 124 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. York made 81.8% of his field goal attempts over three years at LSU and missed just four extra points — all of which came as a freshman in 2019.
In 2021 for LSU, York made 15 of 18 field goals and went a perfect 39 for 39 on extra point attempts. Now, he’ll take those skills to Cleveland, which has a kicker from last year in former Illinois specialist Chase McLaughlin. Cleveland re-signed McLaughlin earlier in the offseason, but now he’ll have competition with York joining him with the Browns.
Out of high school, York was a three-star recruit and the No. 3 kicker recruit in the nation from the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Cade York
During his career at LSU, York displayed a strong leg, which should serve him well in the NFL even though he didn’t do kickoffs with the Tigers. Still, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein said York can have success in the NFL with his leg strength and the accuracy he showed in Baton Rouge for Ed Orgeron’s group.
“York was a highly ranked kicker coming out of high school and has played at a consistently high level for LSU,” Zierlein wrote. “He gets consistent rotation on kicks from all distances and is usually near the middle of the uprights. He didn’t handle kickoff duties at LSU, but has the leg to do so as a pro and should become a good NFL kicker early in his career.”
