LSU stars LaDazhia Williams, Alexis Morris selected in second round of 2023 WNBA Draft
LSU star LaDazhia Williams has had quite a couple of weeks. After winning the national championship in Dallas, she has now heard her name called at the 2023 WNBA Draft. Williams will be joining the Indiana Fever, being the 17th overall pick and in the second round.
Indiana is loading up after a disappointing season and grabbing somebody with Williams’ quality in a great addition. She joins Aliyah Boston with the Fever, who was selected No. 1 overall. An impressive duo will be playing for head coach Christie Sides next season.
Williams only spent one season in Baton Rouge, making her time count with a championship. She previously played for South Carolina and Missouri, becoming quite familiar with the SEC. Somewhere outside of the southeast will be Williams’ new home, heading to Indiana.
Indiana will be getting another well-rounded forward in Williams, having success as both a scorer and rebounder. She averaged 9.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game throughout her 34 appearances during the 2022-2023 season.
No conference recently has been better in the women’s game than the SEC. Indiana taking two top players from the conference is exactly how you get back on the right track, especially after a five-win season.

Alexis Morris joins Williams as WNBA Draft second-round pick
Williams is not the only LSU star who was selected in the second round. Her teammate Alexis Morris joined in on the fun, being picked by the Connecticut Sun. Head coach Kim Mulkey is now seeing her team’s hard work being paid off as the players look to transition to the next level.
Morris was another big-time user of the NCAA transfer portal, finishing her career with LSU. Baylor, Rutgers, and Texas A&M were also jerseys worn by the guard — making for four schools over the course of five years. The Tigers had her on the roster for the longest over the past two seasons.
Morris too played a crucial role in the national championship run for LSU. She was the second-leading scorer for the Tigers, sitting behind Angel Reese. In 36 games played, Morris averaged 15.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
Now, Connecticut will be adding her versatility to the roster. For a franchise that was on the franchise of winning a WNBA championship, adding somebody like Morris, who is fresh off a title of her own, never hurts. A solid player heading to the northeast.
