Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
Channel: ABC, FuboTV (streaming)
Location: Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas
LSU is coming off of a 10-3 season but loses the heartbeat of its offense in 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. The Tigers have had his replacement waiting in Garrett Nussmeier, but with any change there is always question marks.
LSU also loses its top two receivers from a year ago, further complicating how things will look in 2024. Kyren Lacy is back after recording 558 yards and seven touchdowns a year ago, and the Tigers also brought in former Liberty receiver CJ Daniels through the transfer portal.
The Tigers had won of the worst defensive attacks in college football last season to finish 108th in the country in yards allowed per game. That will likely be something USC looks to take advantage of given the history the Trojans have offensively.

USC entering new regime under Lincoln Riley
USC was also among the worst defensive units in college football in its first two seasons under Lincoln Riley. The Trojans bring in a new defensive coordinator in D’Anton Lee after finishing even below the Tigers this past season to rank 119th in total defense.
They will also have a new quarterback with Miller Moss taking over for No. 1 pick Caleb Williams. Moss has thrown for 914 yards and nine touchdowns across a three-year career in Los Angeles. He was formerly a four-star recruit in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The Trojans also lose their top two receivers but return Duce Robinson, who finished with 351 yards and two touchdowns last season as a true freshman. USC also brings in former UCLA transfer Kyle Ford into the fold of weapons at Moss’ disposal.
The opening matchup will provide a major test for the Trojans, but it’s a game they should be able to keep close.
