Luke Musgrave injury update: Green Bay Packers make surprising decision on TE ahead of MNF vs. Saints
The Green Bay Packers are making an unexpected yet major personnel decision, activating tight end Luke Musgrave from the injured reserve and planning to play him in tonight’s Monday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
“The #Packers are activating TE Luke Musgrave from injured reserve and he’ll play tonight against the #Saints, per source,” Pelissero posted on X. “A remarkable return for Musgrave, who had ankle surgery in October and hasn’t played since Week 3. They’ll ease him in.”
Musgrave entered the season with a ton of promise, but injuries derailed his 2024. In his stead, Tucker Kraft has stepped in as a solid replacement, but the former Oregon State star could help bring Green Bay to a new level on offense.
Last season, Musgrave caught 34 passes for 352 yards, signaling he was becoming a consistent option for Jordan Love. Over the summer, that led to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler expecting the tight end to take his game to another level in 2024, potentially developing into one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

“Luke Musgrave, he’s certainly got the most upside out of any of the tight ends, because he’s a super athlete. Jordan Love loves throwing his way,” Fowler said, via SportsCenter. “They have, in Green Bay, a lot of options. They’ve got four or five receivers that they can go to. So that kind of waters down the volume share.
“But this is a tight end that many feel that by the end of this coming year will be in that top 10 tight end discussion.”
Alas, Luke Musgrave’s injuries certainly changed his trajectory in 2024, but finishing out the season strong could go a long way for the tight end. The Green Bay Packers will certainly be happy he’s back in time for the playoffs at least, as they hope to make a run in the NFC.
