On Saturday, Maine and Oklahoma will square off at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Sooners will host the Black Bears inside Memorial Stadium.

Although Oklahoma has lost three straight games, it is a 34.5-point favorite against Maine, according to FanDuel. The over/under for the non-conference showdown is set at 45.5 points.

There is no pre-existing history between these two programs. The only other time Maine has faced an SEC opponent was in 2004 when it defeated Mississippi State 9-7. Now, the Black Bears will look to strike another victory against an SEC foe.

The game on Saturday should serve as a chance for Oklahoma to regain its footing after suffering three straight losses. Most recently, the Sooners fell 26-14 to Ole Miss this past weekend.

It was the Sooners’ first game after firing offensive coordinator Seth Litrell and naming co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley the primary play-caller. In the loss, Oklahoma’s offense amassed 329 total yards.

Sooners QB Jackson Arnold completed 22-of-his-31 pass attempts against the Rebels for 182 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Nonetheless, the Sooners lost two fumbles and ultimately couldn’t find an upset in Oxford, Mississippi.

Despite being disappointed in the final score, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables believes he saw improvement from his team on Saturday.

“It showed what we’re capable of, and today there were some signs there,” Venables said. “There’s no silver lining. Our expectation was to come here and win.

“We need to play our best four quarters of football, complement each other, do the things that we needed to, show that we can do it, and obviously it is a 60-minute, four-quarter game and we weren’t able to sustain that.”

The Sooners will have a chance to piece together a complete game against the Maine Black Bears, who are 4-4 this season. Maine is coming off a 24-14 loss to Rhode Island. In the defeat, Maine’s backfield left a lot to be desired, only averaging 1.9 yards per carry on 30 rushing attempts.

The Black Bears will undoubtedly be hungry to redeem themselves on Saturday as they square off against their lone Power Four opponent of the season. Nonetheless, Oklahoma will be ready as it continues to adjust to life without Litrell on offense.
