New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones‘ return from ACL surgery didn’t go very well on Sunday, with the team suffering a 28-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones was heartily booed at one point as the offense stagnated and failed to produce much.

And after the game, one of Jones’ top targets seemed at a loss for why more targets didn’t come his way. First-round pick Malik Nabers saw seven targets, catching five of them for 66 yards.

“I mean I don’t know really what was going on back there, but I’m getting out of my routes and I’m just trying to make a play, trying to find him, trying to find a better throw for him to make,” Nabers told reporters after the game. “I was just doing my job. I mean that’s all I can do.”

Jones finished the day just 22-of-42 passing for 186 yards. He threw two interceptions and failed to get the offense into a rhythm at any point.

The Giants gained just 240 total yards in the contest.

Malik Nabers was a first-round pick this offseason, taken with the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL Draft. He spent three seasons at LSU prior to entering the NFL Draft, racking up 189 catches for 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Malik Nabers’ college teammate scores first touchdown

One of Malik Nabers’ LSU teammates, receiver Brian Thomas Jr., scored his first NFL touchdown on Sunday. He did so against the Miami Dolphins, suiting up for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On the play, Thomas was able to find room in the back of the endzone and an excellent throw from quarterback Trevor Lawrence found him there. He was then able to get both feet in bounds for the score.

At the time, the touchdown gave the Jaguars a 14-0 lead in the game. For his part, it was Thomas’ third catch of the game. He also drew a big pass interference penalty that set up the first Jacksonville score of the day.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Thomas’ first half in Miami was that he had clearly earned the respect of the Dolphins going into the game. Miami had Jalen Ramsey, who the Dolphins just made the highest-paid cornerback in the game, following Thomas around the field, regardless of where he lined up.

Thomas came to the Jaguars as a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU. In his rookie contract, Thomas earned a four-year deal worth $14.66 million with a $7.48 million signing bonus.
