ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports Friday that New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers will be missing his second straight game with an injury. Ruled out of Sunday night’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals after sustaining a concussion in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The rookie sensation and No. 6 overall pick in the most recent NFL Draft burst onto the scene for New York. Still leading the league with 35 receptions despite missing the Giants’ last game against the Seattle Seahawks. Adding 386 receiving yards and three touchdowns to his impressive stat line and hot start to his first season in the NFL.

After catching 12 passes for 115 yards in New York’s Thursday Night Football matchup against the Cowboys on September 26, Nabers left the game in the fourth quarter. He exited to the locker room and later was diagnosed with a concussion after his head made direct impact with the field while attempting to make a sideline catch.

Nabers is still in the midst of concussion protocol, which requires players to clear five different phases before returning to play. That means there is no set time frame to ensure players receive consistent treatment for concussions that can be inconsistent in severity from case to case.

“He’ll be doing stuff out on the field, more like he was doing the last two days. He won’t make it (for Sunday’s game),” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said on Friday. “There’s a communication between him and the training staff, and then he’ll do activity, and then there’s communication after that. We’re still, obviously, making progress but again, that’s never anything you want to rush.”

The Giants were able to secure their second win of the season without Nabers last weekend, a 29-20 victory over the Seahawks. A game where wide receivers Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson stepped up in Nabers’ absence in a role they’ll have to play once again this weekend as they face the Bengals on a big Sunday Night Football stage.
