Today, wide receiver Malik Nabers and quarterback Jayden Daniels play for division rivals. However, the pair go back to college where they were teammates and LSU, and that connection has now continued into the NFL. In fact, it’s a connection that goes deep enough that some recent comments from Nabers seem to cryptically imply the two will play together again.

When Nabers was asked what quarterback in NFL history he wanted to throw him the ball, he thought for a moment before replying, “Jayden Daniels.” At that point, the host, FaZe Lacy, looked to the camera and wondered if we’d see that happen in the NFL, which is when Nabers got a little cryptic about things.

“You never know,” Nabers said. “You never know.”

The two played two seasons together at LSU, after Daniels transferred into the program ahead of the 2022 season. In those two years together, the pair connected for 161 receptions in 17 games for 2,586 yards and 17 touchdowns. In their second year together that connection would play a key role in Daniels winning the Heisman Trophy.

Unsurprisingly, both became first round picks, which also meant they went do different teams. Coincidentally, that meant going to the New York Giants and Washington Commanders respectively. Since then, Jayden Daniels has thrived, winning the 2024 Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year award after leading Washington to the NFC Championship Game in one of the best single-season turnarounds for a franchise in NFL history.

Statistically, Daniels finished his rookie season completing 69 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also ran for 891 yards and another six touchdowns.

For his part, Malik Nabers also had an excellent rookie season individually. In 15 games, he had 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. However, as a team, the Giants were one of the worst in the entire NFL. New York went 3-14 and had major issues at the quarterback position, deciding to move on from Daniel Jones and finishing the year with backup quarterbacks being elevated to the starting role.

That context around New York’s quarterback situation only makes Nabers’ comments more interesting too. The Giants are expected to draft a quarterback early in the first round of the NFL Draft, who will hopefully become Nabers’ new favorite quarterback. In the meantime, though, there is clearly still a good connection between him and Jayden Daniels, even as they play for rivals.
