Over the offseason, Malik Nabers said Trevon Diggs was the defensive back he was most excited to face in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys star took noticed and responded on social media, generating some buzz ahead of their first matchup.

That will take place Thursday when Diggs’ Cowboys take on Nabers’ New York Giants on TNF. When asked about the battle, though, Nabers offered a short response.

The former LSU star declined to comment on the social media spat with Diggs, which began with the June clip. He wanted to keep his focus on the task at hand, which is Thursday’s game.

“It is what it is,” Nabers told reporters Tuesday. “But I don’t really want to talk about it. It’s game time now.”

Nabers is off to a strong start to his rookie season with the Giants, who got their first win of the season on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He has 37 receptions for 271 yards and three touchdowns to emerge as the top target for Daniel Jones in Brian Daboll’s offense.

Nabers helped lead the charge in Sunday’s win over Cleveland. He hauled in a team-high 78 yards and two touchdowns as the Giants came away with the 21-15 victory on the road. He has quickly become the alpha in New York’s wide receiver room, but he noted the impact his teammates have had on his performance.

“I mean I have a lot of great teammates behind my back pushing me for greatness,” Nabers said. “This last week they kept pushing and pushing, and I am thankful to those guys who kept pushing me to try and be great, and hopefully we can keep the momentum into the next game and have another strong performance for these guys.”

Brian Daboll points out Malik Nabers’ biggest play vs. Browns

Daboll also offered some high praise for Nabers, particularly about his first half performance vs. the Browns. He had some big plays throughout the game, but one stood out to his head coach.

“I’d say the biggest play Malik made – we had a little throwback to (WR) Theo (Johnson), which we had – I think, big play possibility backed up and (QB) Daniel’s (Jones) arm got hit,” Daboll said, via Giants.com. “So it’s up in the air, and for him to make that play in that situation, you know, risk-reward call. I think we were getting man-to-man and he scoots out the back there and I thought, ‘this might go.’

“For him to have the awareness to knock the ball down, that play says more to me about Malik that some of the other things. Everyone can see the touchdowns, but the unselfish play, the smart play he made was a huge play in the game. Huge.”
