ESPN analyst Marcus Spears can see a scenario where Deion Sanders has an influence over his son Shedeur Sanders‘ destination in the 2025 NFL Draft. Spears, speaking on Tuesday’s “Get Up,” said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Colorado head football coach vetoes Shedeur Sanders’ landing spot if he doesn’t like the fit.

“For Deion Sanders, it matters where you go in the league,” Spears said. “This is his son, one of the top prospects in this draft. Don’t be surprised if he vetoes something. We’ve seen it one time from the royal family [Manning family] of the NFL. This is the second royal family once Shedeur is in there.”

As Spears mentioned, there is a precedent for this. The then-San Diego Chargers selected Eli Manning with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Manning made it known he did not want to play for the Chargers, who then flipped him to the New York Giants. John Elway did the same to the Baltimore Colts in 1983, eventually landing with the Denver Broncos. Deion Sanders previously said he would be happy wherever his son ends up.

“Shedeur has told me, he’s talked to me intently about all the visits he’s had with all the teams. So, I know where his heart is. I know where he wants to go,” Sanders said last month on The Skip Bayless Show. “If it’s New York, it’s New York, if it’s Tennessee, if it’s Cleveland, if it’s still the Raiders, if it’s New Orleans, if it’s any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I’m happy with it, man. Because I know what he’s going to do to the organization.”

Where will Shedeur Sanders end up in 2025 NFL Draft?

The Cleveland Browns (No. 2), New York Giants (No. 3) and New Orleans Saints (No. 9) are the three teams picking inside the top 10 that could have interest in Shedeur Sanders. New York is hosting Sanders for a private workout on Thursday, one week before Round 1 of the NFL Draft.

After missing the end of the 2024 season due to a hand injury, Saints quarterback Derek Carr‘s status is “in doubt” for 2025, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported. He is dealing with a shoulder injury and is weighing options, including surgery. If Sanders is there at 9, expect New Orleans to at least consider it.

Sanders finished his final season leading college football in completion percentage and is the FBS all-time leader in the stat at 71.8% for a career. He had 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 74% completion percentage in 2024.
