Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews broke his silence after his disappointing performance in the team’s playoff loss against the Buffalo Bills. On Instagram, Andrews said he was “absolutely gutted by what happened on Sunday.”

“I’m devastated for my teammates, my coaches and Ravens fans,” Andrews wrote in the Instagram post. “I pour every ounce of my being into playing at the highest level possible, because I love my team and the game of football like nothing else. That is why it’s taken me until now to collect my thoughts and address this publicly. Even though the shock and disappointment are unlike anything I’ve felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me. I promise that this adversity will only make me stronger and fuel us as we move forward.

“I thank everyone who has shown me and our team genuine support these past several days. Despite the negativity, I’ve seen heartfelt love and encouragement, including from those who have generously donated to the Breakthrough T1D organization. Even when the moment seems darkest, perspective can reveal that there’s still a lot of light in this world. I’m now going to do my part to bounce back and contribute to it.”

John Harbaugh, Lamar Jackson show support for Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews took a lot of heat for losing a fumble in the fourth quarter dropping a potential tying two-point conversion in the Ravens’ 27-25 loss to the Bills. On Wednesday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told reporters that he sent an encouraging message to the veteran tight end.

“Mark is a huge part of our future and we love him,” Harbaugh said, per Sports Illustrated. “We’re there for him. If anybody can take a tough circumstance like that and handle it with class and grace and dignity and mental toughness, it’s most definitely Mark Andrews.”

Shortly after the game, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson defended Andrews and pointed the finger at his own mistakes. “We’re a team. First half I had two turnovers,” Jackson said when asked about Andrews, per Pro Football Talk. “It’s a team effort. He’s been busting his behind, making plays for us. . . . All of us played a part in this game. It’s a team effort. I’m not gonna put that on Mark because he’s been battling all season, he’s been doing great things all season.

Andrews is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. In 17 regular season games, the three-time Pro Bowler caught 55 passes for 673 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns.
