MarShawn Lloyd health update: Green Bay Packers place rookie RB on NFI list
The Green Bay Packers made a move on rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd who has played just one game this season. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Wednesday that Lloyd will be placed on the non-football illness (NFI) list. The move comes after Lloyd came down with appendicitis last week.
On Monday, the Packers activated Lloyd off injured reserve after his 21-day practice window opened. The 23-year-old was placed on IR on Sept. 17 due to an ankle injury. In the one game Lloyd has played this year, he registered 15 yards on six carries and one catch for three yards.
“Every time I get frustrated I have a guy like Josh Jacobs — because he knows, he’s been through it,” Lloyd said, earlier this season. “Every time I say something about it, or I come up to him, I’ll say like, ‘I can’t catch a break.’ Josh will stop me and he’s like, ‘It happens.’
“Like he said yesterday, ‘who cares?’ That’s something I really like that he said to me, like who cares? Just do what you can do, accept the adversity and get better. At the end there’s going to be something good that comes out, so I’m taking things day-by-day and eventually I’ll be ready to go.”

Marshawn Lloyd said he’s the ‘best running back in the draft’
The Packers selected Lloyd in the third round of this year’s draft. He came to Green Bay after rushing for 820 yards and nine touchdowns at USC in 2023.
“I’m the best running back in the draft, for sure,” Lloyd said after the Packers drafted him, per A to Z Sports. “I’m super confident with that. I definitely do feel like he’s telling the truth.”
“He’s packed in a tighter frame, but we like his ability to make people miss,” Packers general manager Gutekunst said. “He’s got a little juice to him. He’s 220 pounds. He breaks tackles. We think his best football’s ahead of him, and we’re really excited to get him as well.”
