MarShawn Lloyd injury update: Packers rookie RB suffers major setback ahead of potential return
The Green Bay Packers activated MarShawn Lloyd’s 21-day practice window with the hopes of him returning to make an impact on their season, but their plan has hit an unexpected bump in the road.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers running back woke up on Friday morning with appendicitis. Since an appendectomy usually requires several weeks recovery, Green Bay is reportedly talking to the NFL to see if there’s a way he can still play later on in the season.
“RB MarShawn Lloyd woke up this morning with appendicitis, Matt LaFleur said,” Demovsky posted on X. “Since Lloyd’s 21-day practice window opened already and an appendectomy usually requires several weeks recovery, the Packers are talking to the NFL to see if there’s a way he can still play later on.”
Prior to his new ailment, Lloyd, the third round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was dealing with an ankle injury. He rushed six times for 15 yards in Green Bay’s win over the Colts earlier this season, while also catching one pass for three yards.
It has been a frustrating rookie campaign for Lloyd, who has dealt with several injuries already since being drafted by the Packers out of USC.

“Every time I get frustrated I have a guy like Josh Jacobs — because he knows, he’s been through it,” Lloyd said, earlier this season. “Every time I say something about it, or I come up to him, I’ll say like, ‘I can’t catch a break.’ Josh will stop me and he’s like, ‘It happens.’
“Like he said yesterday, ‘who cares?’ That’s something I really like that he said to me, like who cares. Just do what you can do, accept the adversity and get better. At the end there’s going to be something good that comes out, so I’m taking things day-by-day and eventually I’ll be ready to go.”
Alas, it remains to be seen what becomes of MarShawn Lloyd’s rookie season, and if it’ll be ended by an appendectomy, but he’s hoping for a healthier future in the NFL, and so are the Green Bay Packers.
