Martin Truex Jr. announces he will return for 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season
After weeks of speculation and personal debate, Martin Truex Jr. has confirmed he will return for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. Truex had a difficult time it seemed making this decision. He was torn after his victory at New Hampshire and sounded like a driver that wasn’t sure if he wanted to give another 38-week season a go.
However, Martin Truex Jr. will return. This means that Joe Gibbs Racing will stay the same four drivers. Denny Hamlin has yet to sign an extension but one is expected to be completed. No Kyle Busch-type situation going on there.
Truex Jr. will be back in the No. 19 and it is likely thanks to all of the success he’s had this season. Three wins, the points lead, and a championship in his reach – what more could he ask for?
Jeff Gluck of The Athletic shared the news.
For those of you that have to see it from the man himself, don’t worry. Joe Gibbs Racing is very excited to have Martin Truex Jr. back for another season. He’s a championship driver that can clearly keep competing for championships.
So, here it is from Truex. “I’m coming back.”
This is an awesome deal for JGR and great for the fans. Martin Truex Jr. is a high-level talent that makes the Cup Series better overall. Fans wanted to know what he would do. He wanted to know what he was going to do. Now it is out there and everything made official.
No more asking Truex about what his 2024 plans are. Now we wait until next season when the media asks him about the 2025 season… The cycle never ends. For now, we have at least one more season of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion. One more year.

Martin Truex Jr. makes it official, he’s back
In the last 10 races, Martin Truex Jr. has two wins, four top-5s, and a top-10 finish. That success has come amid an internal dispute to retire or come back for another season. Now that he has his mind made up and it is out in the public, he might start driving even better.
That would be hard to imagine with all of his strong performances in recent weeks. Truex Jr. is going to start P5 on Sunday in the FireKeeepers Casino 400. So, he has speed. Maybe he has a fourth win on the season up his firesuit sleeve.
Heading into the race, Truex Jr. leads Denny Hamlin in the points by 39. Hamlin has made a late push, and remember, was fined 25 points earlier in the season for wrecking Ross Chastain. However, it will be hard to close that gap with how consistent Truex has been.
Christopher Bell will lead the field to green after taking the pole. Joe Gibbs Racing has speed, so which driver will make the most of it and come out with the checkered flag?
