Some say that the burnout is overrated, overdone – not when you have an expert like Martin Truex Jr. behind the wheel. There was no putting the car into the wall and letting it do the work for him. He didn’t just give a standstill-type burnout, Truex Jr. burned it down in epic NASCAR fashion!

After leading 51 laps on the day, Martin Truex Jr. won in convincing fashion. Wine Country is no stranger to Truex victories. Picking up his fourth career win on the track, the Joe GibbsRacing driver now has two wins on the year and is celebrating accordingly.

Before he drank the Sonoma wine in Victory Lane, Truex Jr. laid down a burnout worth talking about. He put on a show for the crowd in attendance and those watching at home.

This season, Kyle Larson and Martin Truex Jr. have been excellent on their burnouts. When you get some true racers in the car, you will often see some great celebrations.

Given the winless drought that Truex Jr. went through from 2021 to the Dover race this season, it makes sense that he’s cherishing every moment. You never know when your last win is going to come. For the veteran driver, it might be enough to get him to drive another season in the Cup Series, at least.

Watch out, if that No. 19 team gets hot, they might be hard to stop. Everyone still remembers how dominant that 2017 season was. There are plenty of more races that could be won.

Martin Truex Jr.’s resurgence is real

With how many young drivers there are in the Cup Series, older guys are often being overlooked. Kevin Harvick is retiring. Aric Almirola might be calling it quits. There are others that have fallen off with the introduction of the Next Gen car. It looked like Martin Truex Jr. was going to be part of that group as well.

However, a win at Dover and now a win at Sonoma Raceway might have changed things for the 19 driver. Oh, and let’s not forget that he won the Busch Light Clash to start the season, too. In other words, the Truex resurgence is real and he might be a championship threat this season.

There are plenty of races left in the season and postseason, and Truex likely isn’t done winning. Consistency is the name of the game, and the No. 19 car has had plenty of that in recent weeks. Even after a late restart with Kyle Busch challenging him from second place, Truex Jr. remained resilient and finished his dominant day with a win.

Joe Gibbs Racing now has two wins with Martin Truex Jr., a win with Christopher Bell, and one with Denny Hamlin. How many more will they rack up before the playoffs roll around?
