Martin Truex Jr. gives update on 2025 plans amid 23XI Racing lawsuit
After Phoenix this season, Martin Truex Jr. will no longer be a full-time NASCAR driver. But his semi-retirement is up in the air. 23XI Racing is believed to be putting an entry together for Truex in the 2025 Daytona 500, but what about this lawsuit?
23XI and Front Row Motorsports are taking NASCAR to court over antitrust claims. At the moment, it remains to be seen if either organization will have a chartered team, let alone three each as expected.
Martin Truex Jr. has a Daytona 500 ride. It is strongly believed to be with 23XI. So, how does this lawsuit affect that deal?
Truex Jr. spoke to the media in Las Vegas this weekend about the situation.
“I should probably only have one so I don’t know,” Truex explained, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I don’t own a car so it’s going to be depending on a lot of people to figure it out. So, hopefully, a couple of Xfinity races and the Daytona 500. We’ll see.”
When asked specifically about his Daytona deal, Martin Truex Jr. confirmed. He does not see any changes coming in regards to his 2025 plans.
“As far as I know, as far as I know. … I mean as far as I know it’s all going still. I think we’re good. You never know these days, things change in a hurry, right?” Truex said with a laugh. “A lot going on like you said, I have no clue. But I feel confident I have a contract so that’s a good sign, right?”
It sounds a lot like what Denny Hamlin is saying about the situation.
Martin Truex Jr., other 23XI plans unchanged, for now
While Denny Hamlin is in the middle of a championship battle in the NASCAR Playoffs, his team is in the middle of a legal dispute. The lawsuit from 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports against NASCAR looms large over the sport.

Right now, we have only heard the initial complaint as well as a couple of motions and requests. 23XI and the plaintiffs want an injunction to allow them to operate as chartered teams without giving up their antitrust claims. They also are seeking expedited discovery.
Of course, NASCAR does not want either of those things to happen. So, we’re all just waiting until a judge weighs in and makes a decision one way or another.
According to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, Hamlin has not had any discussions with NASCAR about next year’s charters. 23XI and Front Row are both supposed to purchase a charter each from Stewart-Haas Racing. That is awaiting approval.
We will see if Martin Truex Jr. does have a ride. Most likely, he would be in an open car anyway. 23XI Racing would like to have a full-time driver in their third chartered car, I’m sure.
