The Roval track has been reconfigured and that includes a set of new turtle curbing. Martin Truex Jr. and others are not fans. According to the NASCAR veteran, the violence of going over the bumps are severe.

Martin Truex Jr. is not the only driver that is speaking out against the turtles. NASCAR changed the track slightly in order to add speed and difficulty to a few sections of the track.

Well, the turtles are not great. Truex believes it feels like a concussion every time he goes over them.

“Feels like you get a concussion every lap basically if you hit them,” Truex Jr. explained, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “So, yeah. Not much fun.”

Kyle Busch was relieved to hear someone else say that. Busch is also not too happy about the turtles on the frontstretch chicane.

“It’s not overblowing it. It’s 1000% correct. I don’t know when I’ll see the data, probably not until Monday but it fuc… my head hurts,” Busch answered, via Noah Lewis.

Busch went on to compare it to the old bus stop at Watkins Glen and believes the Roval is more violent. The only saving grace, it’s one bump instead of three back to back.

These two veterans are not big on the new change. During practice and qualifying you could see cars lifting up as they went over the turtles. That speed that drivers gain is more than worth it when you talk about the difference between winning and losing.

That chicane is going to cause problems. If drivers go over the bump without much focus, they could easily find themselves spinning out or wrecking.

Martin Truex Jr. voices concerns

This is the final Roval race that Martin Truex Jr. will compete in. Still, it is worth noting his critiques and criticisms of the track. These new changes are supposed to make the racing product better than the last few years. But is it worth the damage to drivers?

The issue at Watkins Glen was severe enough for NASCAR to make a change. So, is there going to be another change made to the Roval? Definitely not this weekend as the course is set and ready to go. Perhaps for next year?

Road course racing is a challenge, but this Roval has more than just twists and turns. Utilizing the oval track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, drivers have to be ready to transition from the infield to the oval.

Martin Truex Jr. did not qualify in the top-10. He is going to try and move his way through the field. Still without a win this year, there are only a few races for Truex to find his way to Victory Lane.
