Martin Truex Jr. reveals details surrounding 2025 Daytona 500 ride
Martin Truex Jr. confirmed Friday he will run the 2025 Daytona 500. He will not, however, be behind the wheel of a 23XI Racing car as previously speculated.
Now, it appears Truex’s Daytona run will come with Joe Gibbs Racing, his team for the last six seasons of his NASCAR Cup Series career.
“No, it’s not,” Truex said, via Peter Stratta of ABC45 WXLV. “I’m not sure what they’re doing honestly. Up in the air. I was told JGR’s doing it somehow, so we’ll see.”
After Truex, 44, announced in June he would retire from full-time competition at season’s end, JGR teammate and 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin said he would have a car ready for him if he wanted to run the Daytona 500.
“I’ve told him that I will have his Daytona 500 car ready immediately. Just tell me the word,” Hamlin said. “… 100%, I would (add a car to 23XI for Daytona if Truex wanted to race). 100% I would do that.”

Martin Truex Jr. set for 2025 Daytona 500 run
Those plans sounded good until 23XI, and Front Row Motorsports filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR and CEO Jim France in early October. Both Front Row and 23XI will compete as open teams next season after the sanctioning body removed anticompetitive release claims, thus allowing them to race while the legal process continues.
Clearly, the ongoing lawsuit has changed Truex’s plans for Daytona. Still, he will be out there, and will also participate in select Xfinity Series races next season.
“Racing wise, I’m gonna do the Daytona 500 and then looking forward to running some Xfinity cars here and there just to have fun and see how it goes,” Truex said. “I really enjoy that style car. Low downforce and just the older cars that we raced. Looking forward to doing a little bit of that again.”
