Some changes are coming to Joe Gibbs Racing. It was recently announced that Josh Harris and Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment would be buying a minority stake in the team. With the change, could it impact Martin Truex Jr.’s future with JGR?

Prior to Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race in the Ally 400, Truex was asked about the recent investment and whether it makes a difference in his future decisions. It doesn’t sound like it’s much of factor.

“I don’t really think that makes a huge impact,” Truex said. “From what I understand, it’s gonna be a great thing for the company going forward and it would only be a positive. With that said, I think that group is coming this weekend. So it would be nice to meet them and see who’s part of our team.”

Harris, who recently purchased the NFL‘s Washington Commanders, also owns the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and NBA‘s Philadelphia 76ers.

The purchase of Joe Gibbs Racing comes through Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment. Per The Athletic, HBSE will have no function in the day-to-day operations of Joe Gibbs Racing. The efforts will be more geared towards marketing, sales and business.

Former Joe Gibbs Racing driver and NASCAR legend Tony Stewart also believes it’s a strong move.

“You think about what happens if Joe Gibbs goes away,” Stewart said, per NBC Sports. “What happens if Rick Hendrick goes away? Jack Roush goes away… Richard Childress. So you think about key people and owners in this series, what does the future hold?… It’s inevitable. We all start. We all finish at some point in this journey, but you want to see these great, iconic organizations continue, and I think it is a great opportunity.

“I think it’s foolish to sit there and say, no that’s not something you would consider at some point. I mean, if you have the ability and the confidence that your program can continue down the road, I don’t think you look [at it] that way… Think for some of these owners that are getting up there in age, they have plans and they’re making plans on when they’re gone, [so that] these organizations can maintain and stay a part of the sport.”

Truex currently sits atop the NASCAR Cup Series points standings. He has posted top-five finishes in each of his last three races. He has also claimed two checkered flags on the year.
