Matt Kaulig reveals the best golfer out of his drivers
Matt Kaulig has been fantastic for the sport of NASCAR, bringing a new, competitive team to the Cup Series over the last couple of seasons.
Instead of all his focus being on the track this week though, Kaulig hosted the Kaulig Companies Championship, a golf event featuring some of the top golfers in the world, and his drivers, of course.
“Well we’re at a golf event, it’s the Kaulig Companies Championship here at Akron, Ohio, and we’re going to golf, and we have some of the best PGA professional golfers that have ever lived, so it’s just a great setting,” Kaulig said, speaking with NASCAR Nation on Twitter. “It’s great fun. We actually do have five NASCAR — five of our five Kauling racing (drivers) out here.”
After Kaulig revealed that information, only one question came to mind, who’s the best of the best at golf when it comes to Kaulig’s racing stable? According to the team owner, there’s only one right answer to the question.
“AJ Allmendinger,” responded Kaulig. “It’s actually not even close.”
Dang, Justin Haley and the rest of Kaulig’s roster are going to take exception to that. Allmendinger is the veteran of the group though, so perhaps that explains his skills on the links.
Nevertheless, Matt Kaulig’s golf event seems like a great time, and hopefully we’ll get some more content like this out of him throughout.

Continuing, Kaulig Racing could get into the playoffs for the first time in 2023, and it’s all on the shoulders of AJ Allmendinger.

The veteran driver returned to the Cup Series at the behest of Matt Kaulig, and he’s made an immediate impact in the No. 16 Chevrolet. He currently sit at P18 in the playoff standings, just 13 points behind Michael McDowell for the final spot.
Of course, Allmendinger could simply win a race and get into the dance, and so could his teammate Justin Haley, but we’ve seen it’s not always that easy to get that done.
As for Haley’s point standings, as he is the other Kaulig Racing driver in the series, the driver of the No. 31 Chevrolet is current P21 in the race to the playoffs. A second place finish in the Chicago Street Race greatly helped his chances, but he’s still 41 points behind the cutoff, so he’ll likely need a victory to move on.
Alas, time will tell if Kaulig Racing can race for a championship in 2023, but if they can make it to the dance, they’ll have a chance to win it all.
