Legacy Motor Club is adding a former NASCAR Cup Series champion to their team, as they continue to make shrewd moves for 2024.
Matt Kenseth is joining the team as a competition advisor, according to Kelly Crandall of RACER. He’ll also be mentoring Legacy’s young drivers, Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek as the team moves to Toyota next season.
That’s a huge addition for Legacy. While they already have arguably the greatest to ever get behind the wheel in Jimmie Johnson as their team owner, along with Richard Petty as part of their squad, the addition of Kenseth certainly won’t hurt.
Over the course of his NASCAR Cup Series career, Kenseth amassed 39 wins, 331 top ten finishes and of course, the 2003 Winston Cup Series Championship. He’s always been regarded as one of the smartest drivers in the field, and the ability to pick his brain will be invaluable for Legacy Motor Club moving forward.
In a press release from Legacy, Kenseth detailed why he believes this is a “great opportunity,” and how excited he is to start.

“Jimmie and I have so much respect for each other as both competitors and friends – we are alike in many ways and at similar points in our careers,” said Kenseth. “This is a great opportunity for me to be a resource for two extremely talented drivers and help on the racing operations side with this transition to Toyota. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Additionally, Johnson added some kind words about Kenseth, and it’s evident he believes this is going to be an awesome partnership.
“Not only is Matt an excellent driver and a fierce competitor, he’s also a great friend,” Johnson said. “This alliance makes so much sense. Matt is extremely smart, has worked with Toyota while racing for Joe Gibbs Racing, and is still as competitive as ever. He’s a natural-born athlete and as fit as I have ever seen him. I’m so glad he is willing to share his knowledge and experience with us, and we look forward to all Matt has to offer.”
Fun times seem to be ahead for Legacy Motor Club and Matt Kenseth. We can’t wait to see how he helps them perform.
