Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has praised the work and development of wide receiver Romeo Doubs over the course of the offseason.

Now in his second season in the NFL, Romeo Doubs is expected to become a big piece of the Green Bay offense in the transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love. So, that connection between Doubs and Love is going to be a key piece of the team’s success moving forward.

“I think last year, I know I talked about just his process and his routine that he has. There are some times where you almost have to pull him back because he’s so invested into it and puts so much time into it that I think sometimes you can almost wear yourself out. So, I think that’s one thing with him — you never have to worry about whether or not he’s working. And I know from when we get out of here and the time that he spends away from here, he will be very deliberate with what he does,” Matt LaFleur said.

“So, I expect him to be able to pick up right where he left off. He’s done some unbelievable things throughout the course of these OTAs, just whether it’s with the route running, the catches, and just continues to build on that rapport he has with Jordan.”

A fourth round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada, Doubs had a solid rookie season for the Packers, with 42 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

Along with that investment in his routine as he works to get better, Matt LaFleur has also noted that Doubs and Love are working together a lot. This should help improve their chemistry ahead of the 2023 season.

“I think that ‘Rome’ has done a nice job of really making that next step. Now, he’s got to go out and do it in games. But, I think what we’ve seen from him in practice — just how deliberate he is with what he’s trying to work on, he’s doing a great job of really getting his feet to the ground, running violent routes, violent cuts, being aggressive with his hands,” LaFleur said.

“So, I think he’s shown a lot of progress. And the rapport that those two guys have shown throughout eight practices now has been pretty solid.”

Matt LaFleur praised Jordan Love

Along with praising Romeo Doubs for his development, Matt LaFleur also praised Jordan Love for taking significant strides during the offseason.

“He was pretty good and his ball wasn’t always the tightest but he did a great job. It’s about just being accurate. Throwing on time. Making the right decisions. Putting the ball in the right spot. And so, I’ve been encouraged — especially, I would say over the course of this last week, one of the things that we’ve kind of talked about in that room is just how important — it’s really the process of playing quarterback,” LaFleur said.

“I’m less concerned about the end result right now. But I do believe that if the process is correct, he is going to be more consistent. So, within that, it’s just the footwork, the clean mechanics, keeping a base in the pocket, being able to throw at any point in time. And I think just the rhythm and the timing, that’s something we’ve really stressed. I think he’s done a good job in particular this week of making some really significant strides.”
