Matt LaFleur provides status update on Aaron Rodgers toe fracture
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going the non-evasive route for treatment of his fractured toe. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shared on Monday that he doesn’t believe Rodgers is getting surgery early this week.
The surgery would have only sidelined Rodgers for a few days during the Pack’s bye week but the veteran has been playing well even with the injury.
Rodgers expressed his hope to avoid surgery last week on the Pat McAfee show.
“We’ll reassess later this week and early next week, the ultimate goal is to not have to do it,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers, Packers healing over the bye week
The Packers are headed into their much-needed bye week after a 36-28 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. This week off will give injured Green Bay players a chance to rest and rehab.
Aaron Rodgers had earlier joked that he wouldn’t say how the injury happened, only saying it was during quarantine after his positive COVID-19 test.
Although the Packers, Rodgers, and coach Matt LaFleur would like for the injury to heal over the bye, without surgery, it’s likely that Rodgers will continue to manage the injury and subsequent pain.
Rodgers is putting together a solid season leading Green Bay. He’s thrown for 2,878 yards and 23 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

Ben Roethlisberger comments on retirement rumors
If Ben Roethlisberger’s really thinking about retirement, he’s not talking about it in Week 14. However, after the Steelers’ narrow 20-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Roethlisberger at least addressed the latest rumors.
“I haven’t told everybody that, no,” Roethlisberger said Sunday night. “Honestly, we just got done with this game, I’m exhausted. We play in a couple of hours, it feels like. That’s my focus. My focus is on Minnesota and what we have to do to get ready.
“I’ll address any of that stuff after the season. I’ve always been a one-game-at-a-time, one-season-at-a-time person. I’m going to stay that way.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday afternoon that Roethlisberger has privately told former teammates and some members of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that this year will be his final season before retiring.
