Earlier today, Matt Mills was involved in a scary crash as he was bumped up the track and into the outside wall. Connor Jones made contact with Mill’s rear bumper and sent the NASCAR driver up the track, his truck would catch on fire before coming to a stop.

While Matt Mills left the truck under his own power, he has been receiving treatment since. He was given fluids at the infield care center before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Niece Motorsports has released an update on Mills. He will remain overnight at the hospital.

“Matt Mills will remain at a local hospital for continued observation overnight. Mills, driver of the No. 42 for Niece Motorsports, was transported for observation after an incident in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“Matt and team are grateful for the outpouring of support. Further updates will be provided as they become available.”

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Mills. He took a hard hit and the fire and smoke did not help. Connor Jones did not show much restraint on Saturday afternoon.

Jones received a two-lap penalty for reckless driving.

Connor Jones apologizes for Matt Mills wreck

Connor Jones felt that Matt Mills had blocked him too much. Possibly thought he wasn’t racing him how he should be racing him. Given past incidents and moments between the two, Jones let his emotions get he best of him.

Connor Jones released this statement:

“I have not yet had the chance to personally apologize to Matt for the incident that took place during today’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but I intend to do so,” Jones said in a statement. “Matt and I have encountered several on-track incidents this season, and I let my frustration get the best of me. I underestimated the impact my actions would have on Matt, and I deeply regret the consequences that followed.

“I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Matt, Niece Motorsports, NASCAR, and my entire ThorSport Racing team for my unsportsmanlike behavior. My thoughts are with Matt, during this time after hearing that he been taken to the hospital for further evaluation following the contact on the racetrack.”

When Matt Mills is out of the hospital, I’m sure Connor Jones will be calling him. Poor decisions on track have real consequences.
