Good news for Matt Mills. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver has been released from the hospital after his scary wreck. Mills was moved up the track by Connor Jones, his truck caught on fire, and the driver suffered from smoke inhalation while in the truck.

There has been a ton of support for Matt Mills since the wreck on Saturday. Unfortunately, Mills had to stay in the hospital for two nights due to his smoke inhalation.

In a video, Mills shared the news himself. The Truck Series driver still sounds a little rough, but will be competing at Martinsville this weekend.

“Hey everybody, glad to be out of the hospital, still a little raspy as you can hear,” the driver says in the video. “Um, but uh, all the overwhelming support and text messages I got just mean so much to me. Definitely didn’t like being in the hospital as long as I was or being in that situation. So, having you guys there to support me and help me get through that, just can’t thank y’all enough.”

Mills thanked the medical teams at the track and hospital, as well as supportive fans. He is still recovering but doing better than he was.

Matt Mills did not once mention Connor Jones in his message. I believe that is admirable. It is clear that Mills wants to move on from the situation and get back to racing.

That does not change the fact that Jones stepped over the line. At 18 years old, Jones has had issues in NASCAR and other series. His time in the CARS Tour has been successful, but these moments have popped up over time.

Matt Mills moving passed Connor Jones wreck

Following the wreck on Saturday, Connor Jones was penalized by being held for two laps. Matt Mills was already on his way to the care center. It was a hard wreck that resulted in a large fire in the truck and later a plume of smoke.

Jones released a statement after the race. NASCAR fans were critical of the ThorSport driver online. We will see if NASCAR deems it necessary to penalize Jones further this week or leave it be. Hospitalizing a driver for two days is no small matter.

There are only two races left in the season, so a further punishment would relate to one or both of those races. But I’m not sure NASCAR doesn’t just have a conversation with Jones and tries to get this put behind them.

Matt Mills is out of the hospital. He can race on Saturday. If he wants to move on from it, then everyone else should move on from it. He will be proving himself on the race track at Martinsville and Phoenix.
