Matt Mills update: NASCAR driver remains in hospital after scary wreck at Homestead-Miami

Niece Motorsports provided an update Sunday on the health status of Matt Mills, who was hospitalized after a scary wreck in Saturday’s Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami.

Mills remains in a local hospital as doctors continue to monitor his oxygen levels due to smoke inhalation.

“Matt Mills will again remain overnight at a local hospital for observation,” the statement read. “Doctors continue to monitor Mills’ oxygen levels due to smoke inhalation. Mills, the driver of the No. 42 for Nice Motorsports, was transported on Saturday, October 26. And held for overnight observation after an incident in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Matt and team are thankful for the track safety crews, NASCAR medical team and all hospital staff for the continued care.”

Conner Jones intentionally wrecked Mills while racing for 19th on Lap 75. Mills made contact with the outside wall before his No. 42 Chevrolet caught on fire. NASCAR parked Jones two laps for intentionally wrecking Mills.

Jones declined comment to reporters after finishing 25th. He issued a statement after the race.
