Mel Kiper adds fuel to Drew Allar 2025 NFL Draft speculation fire
Mel Kiper added fuel to the Drew Allar 2025 NFL Draft speculation fire by mentioning him near the top of the draft Wednesday.
Naturally, people are saying Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the top two QBs in this class. Then you throw in the JJ McCarthy trade buzz, some like Kiper said McCarthy would rank the highest in this QB class.

And that included Allar, when it comes to teams deciding to draft a quarterback or look into a trade for McCarthy, who was out all season with a knee injury after being selected No. 10 by the Minnesota Vikings.
“I would say the Giants would be the Shedeur spot and I think Cleveland could take Travis Hunter (and) go in a different direction,” Kiper said on Unsportsmanlike. “I really think, we talked about Drew Allar, what’s his decision going to be after the next game or two?”
Kiper went onto say McCarthy would rank ahead of Allar. But it’s curious he mentioned Allar at all.
The Penn State quarterback is expected to return to the team in 2025 and that might’ve even sparked Beau Pribula to enter the transfer portal at the start of the College Football Playoff. Then Penn State backup is committed to Missouri.
Kiper’s main talking point Wednesday was about the options for the Vikings when it comes to veteran Sam Darnold and what to do with McCarthy.

No decision has been made to the contrary, but it could shake up Kiper’s board, considering what he thinks of Allar.
For now, the Nittany Lions starter has to focus on Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
“Just turning on the tape, they’re a very sound unit that also plays very hard and very physical,” Allar said when asked about Notre Dame Saturday morning. “They’re obviously very detailed and very well-coached. There’s not many [missed assignments] on film. They’re not just leaving guys and dropping guys downfield and in the pass game.
“But I think it kind of starts up front. I think their D-line is really good, but also, their secondary is a really good secondary. Obviously, we’re down to the final four teams and there’s not going to be a weak link really on any team. So, I think it’s just about executing the game plan that the coaches are going to have for us. But a lot of respect to these guys. They’ve accomplished a lot this year and have done a lot this year. Statistically, their defense is really good, so it’s going to be a really fun matchup.”
