Mel Kiper Jr. believes Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton could be a top 15 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Last week, the ESPN analyst raved about Guyton’s past season and NFL potential.

“He was entertaining to watch because he will slug it out with your boy and he is a talented kid,” Kiper said. “The way he goes about his business, how athletically gifted he is, he is super, super talented. And [he is] a guy who has the ability to play with that mentality of, ‘I will get after you. I will open up running lanes for those backs. I will be a guy who will be a big destroyer as a run blocker.'”

Guyton made 10 appearances this season for Oklahoma at right tackle, including nine starts. For his efforts, he was named an All-Big 12 honorable mention. Guyton was a cornerstone for Oklahoma’s offensive line, which only allowed 20 total sacks this season.

As Kiper mentioned, Guyton was also proficient this year at clearing lanes for his running backs. The Sooners averaged 182.2 rushing yards per game this season, the 34th-most in the country.

Tyler Guyton grabs scouts’ attention

Standing at 6-foot-7, 328 pounds, Guyton is an NFL scout’s dream. The redshirt junior showed off his abilities again on Saturday at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. In the week leading up to the game, Guyton received rave reviews, including from Lance Zierlein, a draft analyst for NFL.com.

“Guyton was one of the tackles who had a performance that matched his potential on Tuesday,” Zierlein wrote. “He has great size and length, and he used both traits to his advantage in shutting down spin moves and bull rushes in one-on-one drills.

“Guyton is a little light on experience (one season as a full-time starter) but heavy on talent, so Tuesday could mark the beginning of a jump up draft boards.”

Guyton has consistently risen up Kiper’s rankings. In Kiper’s latest NFL Big Board, he listed Guyton as the No. 21 available prospect in the upcoming draft. He added Guyton could continue to rise up his projections under the right circumstances.

“What I really like about Guyton is the attitude and rugged approach he brings on every snap,” Kiper wrote. “He has excellent feet and agility in pass protection, gets to the second level of the defense with ease and also can deliver a pop as a run blocker.

“What Guyton needs to work on his maintaining more consistency; he started just 14 college games at right tackle, so he’s not yet a finished product. Still, his skill set and upside could put him in the mid-first-round discussion. He did not allow a sack in the 2023 season.”
