Not even the experts know where Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is going to land in the 2025 NFL Draft. On Monday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. provided a detailed evaluation of the intriguing draft prospect.

“With Quinn Ewers, if you could bottle some of those games and some of those series and some of the throws, and say, ‘Boy, if we could just level that off,'” Kiper said on First Draft. “I want him to put the foot on the gas. And I say, foot on the gas with that arm. I didn’t see a lot of muscle throws.

“In the NFL, you got tight windows. You got to muscle those throws in there, right? You got to stick it in there. And the thing is, he can do it, but a lot of times he’s trying to just loft it out there, lay it out there. And to me, sometimes you got to go 80 miles an hour, OK? You can’t go 30. Gotta go 80.”

In his three years with the Longhorns, Ewers played and started in 36 games. He amassed 737 completions for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns while throwing 28 interceptions. He recorded a 64.9% career completion percentage.

Despite Ewers’ immense experience, he often struggled to find consistency. Part of that is likely due to the injury issues he suffered throughout his collegiate career. Alas, it may be difficult for NFL teams to risk a draft pick on Ewers when they can’t be certain what version of the QB they’re getting.

While Kiper believes that Ewers has NFL potential, he understands scouts’ hesitation to go all in on the Longhorns legend.

“From an arm standpoint, he’s shown it. I’d just like to see it more on a consistent basis,” Kiper said. “He’s gonna be one of those guys, people are gonna be all over the place on. Some are gonna say, ‘No, I haven’t seen enough to say he can be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL.’ Others will say, ‘Hey, yeah, you can just take this game or this series. I saw that throw. I saw him be that guy.’

“You go back a couple of years ago, went into Tuscaloosa — he was unfazed going against Nick Saban‘s defense. You’ve seen plenty of glimpses of Quinn Ewers showing he could be a successful starting quarterback, but it hasn’t been consistent.”

It won’t be long before Ewers finds out where the next chapter of his journey will lead him. The NFL Draft will take place from April 24-26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
