Miami and Georgia Tech are set to meet in a matchup that’s hugely important for both teams. It’s also one that might represent one of the biggest remaining threats for the undefeated ‘Canes.

The Hurricanes have had some interesting games in recent weeks, most recently outlasting Duke in a bit of a shootout. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, has posted some impressive wins this season but has struggled of late due to injury.

According to lines listed by FanDuel, Miami will open as a 12.5-point favorite over Georgia Tech in the contest. The over/under point total for the matchup has been set at 61.5 points.

That sets the expectation going into the game: The ‘Canes are a considerable favorite and should be expected to take care of business if they hope to keep cruising toward the College Football Playoff.

Miami has survived some interesting games in recent weeks, going down to the wire against the likes of Virginia Tech, California and Louisville. For most of three quarters, last week’s game against Duke was also hotly contested.

But quarterback Cam Ward has been the overriding factor. He’s been absolutely unstoppable all year, perhaps even one of the leading Heisman Trophy candidates.

He’ll be tough to stop for the Yellow Jackets, who need a lot to go right to have a chance in the matchup.

For its part, Georgia Tech is struggling a bit, having lost two straight. A loss to Notre Dame was certainly understandable. A loss at Virginia Tech a little less so.

Quarterback Haynes King led the early charge, putting together a decent start to the season for the Yellow Jackets. However he’s been out of late, with the job instead going to backup Zach Pyron.

Pyron has thrown three interceptions in the two games since he replaced King, while his completion percentage has hovered around 50%. He’ll have to be better if Georgia Tech hopes to have a shot against Miami.
