Ward’s nearly 3500 yards are a single-season record for the Hurricanes. He also outstrips McCord in passing touchdowns, 32-24, as Ward leads the nation in that category. McCord is tied for No. 7.

Prior to his time with Miami, Ward played two seasons with Washington State. While showing off his stuff inside the Pac-12, he played against some of the best teams in the country, continually elevating his game to the tune of 6,968 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

McCord threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdown passes in his lone season as the Ohio State starter under center. Helping lead the team to an 11-1 record to end the regular season with a lone loss coming from the Michigan Wolverines. He transferred to Syracuse ahead of the 2024 season.

Saturday in central New York is also key for the Hurricane trying to win the ACC, as a second loss in-conference would send Clemson — with only one conference loss — to the title game to face SMU. Were that to happen, Miami’s case to make the CFP as an at-large would be tenuous.
