Miami-Dade police officer involved in Tyreek Hill detainment seeking reinstatement
The Miami-Dade Police Department officer who was placed on administrative duty for his role in Tyreek Hill‘s Sunday detainment is seeking reinstatement, according to Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.
Attorneys Ignacio Alvarez of ALGO Law Firm and Israel Reyes of The Reyes Law Firm, who are representing the officer, called the decision to place their client on administrative duties “premature.”
“We urge all parties to refrain from making public statements that may misrepresent our client’s actions and mislead the public about Mr. Hill’s detainment,” Alvarez said in a statement.
Alvarez and Reyes added they “fully support” Miami-Dade Police Department director Stephanie Daniels’ call for a thorough review of the incident.

Body cam footage reveals interaction between Tyreek Hill, Miami-Dade police officers
An officer pulled over Hill for a speeding violation roughly three hours before the Miami Dolphins’ Week 1 home tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As the body cam footage released by the Miami-Dade Police Department showed, multiple officers removed Hill from his car after he handed over his license and then rolled up his window.
Officers threatened Hill to roll it back down or they would remove him from the car themselves. Hill told CNN on Monday that he rolled his window back up because he didn’t want to cause a scene.
After Hill opened his car door, multiple officers removed him from the car and tossed him to the ground. Hill told the officers to take him to jail, in which one replied, “We are, we will.”

Calais Campbell arrived at the scene as Hill was in handcuffs. An officer approached him and told him to leave. After a brief back-and-forth exchange, an officer placed Campbell in handcuffs. Officers placed Campbell in detainment for “disobeying a direct order,” he said after the game.
Jonnu Smith was also at the scene, repeatedly told by police to get back in his car and drive away. One officer threatened to give him a ticket. Hill received a citation for careless driving and a seatbelt violation.
Miami Dolphins call for ‘swift and strong action’ against officers involved in Tyreek Hill detainment
The Dolphins released a statement Monday calling for “swift and strong action” against the officers involved. The team referred to the actions taken by officers as “despicable behavior.”
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, called for the firing of the officers involved in Hill’s detainment during a Tuesday appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show.”
“For me, personally, I believe the police officers that did that to Tyreek shouldn’t be in that position. They should be let go,” Rosenhaus said. “Look at the guy who kicked him — that guy should be fired. That’s out of control. The guy that jumped in and put him in a chokehold? There’s no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that. When Tyreek wasn’t being aggressive, or violent or fighting back in any capacity.
“That was horrendous how they treated him. They didn’t treat him like a human being.”
