Reports: Miami Dolphins bringing back pass rusher Melvin Ingram
The Miami Dolphins (9-4) are signing Melvin Ingram to their practice squad after the veteran pass rusher worked out for the team Tuesday, per Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.
Ingram 34, spent the 2022 season with Miami, appearing in all 17 games (six starts). He recorded 6.0 sacks, 22 tackles (15 solo), 10 quarterback hits and one forced fumble. He went unsigned during free agency and hasn’t played this season.
The former South Carolina standout has spent 11 seasons in the NFL — nine with the Los Angeles Chargers (2012-2020), parts of a season with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers (2021) and the lone season with the Dolphins (2022). He has tallied 57.0 sacks, 407 tackles (292 solo), 129 quarterback hits, 16 forced fumbles and three interceptions.
The Dolphins could use the experience of Ingram as they make their playoff push given the season-ending Achilles injury to Jaelan Phillips. Phillips sustained the injury in the 34-13 Week 12 victory over the New York Jets (5-8). Phillips is still tied for second on the Dolphins in sacks (6.5) despite only playing in eight games this season. Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins paces the team with 7.5.
The Dolphins also signed veteran pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul last month after Phillips went down with the injury. He has hardly featured on the field in two appearances since.

Dolphins suffer brutal defeat in Week 14 vs. Titans
Miami hit a roadblock in Week 14, falling at home to the Tennessee Titans (5-8), 28-27. Miami held a 27-13 advantage with under three minutes remaining in the game but allowed 15 points in the final 2:40. Tennessee is the only team this century to overcome at least a 14-point deficit in the final three minutes of a game and win in regulation, per TruMediaSports.
“Collectively I think the guys will rise to the occasion,” head coach Mike McDaniel said after the game. “I think you have to because it’s a humbling game, and you think that you’re a good football team, but then each and every week you have to prove that on the field, and you can’t take anything for granted.
“Right now it feels terrible, but that’s everything that we’ll be trying to do moving forward because these types of losses can be very galvanizing, but it takes literally every person in the locker room and coaching staff, and you have to – as long as guys aren’t pointing fingers, which I feel like there’s a lot of people looking internally, you have that chance, and that’s what we’ll be spending our time doing.”
