Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will start Monday night for the Miami Dolphins in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Skylar Thompson got the nod last week in a 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Now, Huntley will get his crack to get Miami back on the right track.

Huntley originally signed with the Cleveland Browns back in March after four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Once he was released, he re-signed with the Ravens in August.

However, the Dolphins signed him to the active roster just two weeks ago following Tagovailoa’s concussion.

Huntley has a 3-6 record as a starter and has played 20 career games, all with Baltimore. He has 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, a 64.6% completion percentage, 509 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Huntley was undrafted in 2020 out of Utah, where he played four seasons with the Utes. In his college career, Huntley had 7,351 yards, 46 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and a 67.2% completion percentage. He added 1,146 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

As a member of the Class of 2016, Huntley was a three-star recruit out of Hallandale (Fla.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 60 overall prospect in the state, the No. 28 quarterback in the class and the No. 414 overall prospect in the class.

Tyler Huntley to start for Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa still out

The question has been raised regarding whether Tagovailoa should continue playing after suffering yet another concussion. Some media members have urged Tagovailoa to retire, but Schefter noted that unless a doctor or someone important in the quarterback’s life pleads with him not to return, he believes Tagovailoa will return to the field.

“(Tagovailoa) was supposed to spend this week meeting with the doctors, but I think, without knowing what was said between the doctors and Tua this week, I think here’s what you could deduce going into that, that it’s going to take somebody stepping in and being adamant, ‘Tua, you cannot play. Tua, you can’t do this,’ because his mindset all along has been that he wants to continue playing. That’s just the way that he’s thought,” Schefter reported. “Now, is there going to be enough information, or are tests going to be conclusive enough that some doctor, some family member, some friend is going to step in and say, ‘Tua, this isn’t happening,’ and I don’t have the answer to that.

“I don’t know what those conversations are, that have occurred, or will occur, in the days and weeks to come, but I know this is a guy that every time he’s been through a situation like this, no matter the severity of it, he has been determined to continue playing, and that’s something that’s been a part of his life as long as he’s known. It’s in his blood, it’s what he’s trained to do, and my guess is that’s what he’s going to want to keep doing, keep playing.

“So, unless somebody is going to step in and block him and shut him down, that’s my sense of how this is going to play out.”
