“McDaniel, he’s gonna need a wheelbarrow for his nuts to carry them around,” Hill said. “He got a lot of cajones, you know what I’m saying? It was a gutsy call by him.”
McDaniel also opted to go for it on another fourth down during Sunday’s game, successfully drawing the Patriots defense offsides to get the first down. It was an interesting glimpse into the mindset of the 46-year-old, who is in his first season as an NFL head coach.
Prior to taking over the Dolphins, McDaniel had spent the past five seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in San Francisco. Now he starts his head coaching career off with a 1-0 mark thanks to his gutsy play calling from Sunday’s game.
Tyreek Hill, who like Mike McDaniel is also in his first season with Miami, finished as the team’s leading receiver with eight catches for 94 yards. After totaling 1,000 yards or more in four of the past five season, he is already well on his way to another in 2022.
