Amid the uncertainty surrounding Tua Tagovailoa’s latest concussion, the Miami Dolphins are bringing in a veteran quarterback to ease their trouble.

On Monday, the franchise signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Snoop Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. While the analyst noted that Skylar Thompson is in line to start Sunday at Seattle, Huntley “could be a factor in coming weeks.”

“The #Dolphins are signing former Pro Bowl QB Snoop Huntley off the #Ravens practice squad, per sources,” Pelissero posted on X. “With Tua Tagovailoa in concussion protocol, Skylar Thompson is in line to start Sunday at Seattle, and now Huntley could be a factor in coming weeks as well.”

The veteran quarterback rose to fame with the Ravens, filling in admirably for Lamar Jackson when the reigning MVP was injured over the past three seasons. The Cleveland Browns took a flier on Huntley this summer, but he returned to Baltimore on their practice squad prior to the start of the season.

In his career, Huntley has started nine games, and seen action in 20. Overall, he’s passed for 1,957 yards and eight touchdowns, while running for three scores, as well. If he sees action with the Dolphins, the former Utah star will be hoping to best those numbers.

Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire after meeting with specialists, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

For now, Tagovailoa hasn’t been cleared to return to action. That’s a decision that will come down to the medical team around him. However, when that time comes, it looks like he’ll return to the field for the Dolphins.

“Tua Tagovailoa and his doctors will be making the decisions about his playing, his health,” Rapoport said. “They will be driving the process. My understanding is Tagovailoa has no plans to retire.”

Tagovailoa suffered the concussion when he was scrambling and collided with Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin. Hamlin’s arm caught Tagovailoa in the facemask and he went down into a fencing response and it would be a few minutes before he could get up and go to the locker room to be ruled out of the game.

“He has no plans to retire. In fact, his eyes are already on returning to the football field,” Rapoport continued. “As far as when that goes, we simply do not know. Every concussion is different. The way every player responds to a concussion is different. He will be healthy enough to play when he is healthy enough to play and when he and his doctors decide that.”

For many, it’s concerning to see how concussions have stacked up for Tagovailoa. He suffered two in 2022. Going back to his time at Alabama, he has now suffered four documented concussions in five seasons.
