Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith involved in potentially fatal car accident
Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith was involved in a potentially fatal car accident on his way home from the team’s 121-95 win over the Orlando Magic at the Kaseya Center in Miami Tuesday.
Haywood hit a person helping another driver stuck in the middle of the road, per Andy Slater of FOX Sports 640 South Florida. He was not injured in the accident, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The man who was hit is in critical condition and suffered a partial amputation of his leg.
The Heat are aware of the situation and have listed Haywood as out for Wednesday’s home contest against the San Antonio Spurs.

“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game,” the Heat said in a statement. “Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Haywood, 27, is in his fourth season in the NBA and third with the Heat. He’s appeared in 37 games (24 starts) this season, posting averages of 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Haywood is shooting a career-high 43.1% from the field and 37.4% from behind the arc.
