Sebastian the Ibis, the mascot of the Miami Hurricanes, apparently had his mind elsewhere during the loss for The ‘U this weekend.

Ashley Wenskoski of CNY Central tweeted during the fourth quarter of the 42-38 loss for Miami at Syracuse on Saturday that Sebastian hit on her mid-game and asked for her number.

“Sebastian the Ibis (Miami’s mascot) just kneeled down and asked for my number mid-drive,” Wenskoski wrote on Twitter. “Feels like he has bigger things to worry about with his team on the ropes in the 4th quarter at the Dome…but who am I to say.”

Again, not exactly the time for Sebastian to make a move. After being up 21-0 in the first quarter, Miami had allowed a 35-7 scoring run for Syracuse to tie and take the lead entering the fourth quarter with a score of 35-28. The ‘Canes would tie it again at 35 with a score to start the fourth but the Orange took it back for good with a touchdown just a few minutes later.

In other words, everyone was scoring digits on the field that afternoon besides Sebastian.

If losing a game where they were up three scores wasn’t bad enough, it was then even worse considering the context for Miami. The loss kept them out of the conference championship game this weekend with Clemson now being who will play SMU in Charlotte. That obviously also affects the Hurricanes’ chances of being in the playoff now with them much less likely to get in as an at-large seed for the CFP.

Credit where it’s due to the mascot for shooting his shot while in character on the sidelines at ‘Cuse. However, Sebastian looks to have missed on Wenskoski the same as Miami did in regards to the ACC Championship and, with that, possibly the College Football Playoff.
