Alabama 3B Gage Miller has been selected at the 2024 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins. Miller was picked in the third round with the No. 92 overall pick after a great season in Tuscaloosa. A big-time bat at a premium defensive position.

Miller played and started all 55 games for Alabama this season, being a real staple in the lineup for head coach Rob Vaughn. Results came on a nightly basis too, with Miller finishing with a .381 batting average with 19 home runs, 58 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.182.

Those would be great numbers for any season but Miller was playing his first-ever season of power conference baseball. He transferred into the program from Bishop State Community College. You have to imagine the goal was the show out in the SEC, improve his draft stock, and get taken this summer.

If so, mission accomplished for Miller. Returning to Tuscaloosa for another season is certainly on the table too, having one more year of eligibility. Miller will have to make a decision on his future relatively soon but the door to starting his professional career has been opened.

What MLB scouts are saying about Gage Miller

A scouting report on Miller was provided ahead of the draft courtesy of MLB.com. They ranked the Alabama 3B as the No. 68 overall prospect in the class, having good things to say about his ability with the bat.

If he is able to make the journey to the Major Leagues, MLB.com believes Miller could provide 20 home runs in a season. Getting better contact on changeups is an area Miller will likely want to improve upon as he faces better pitching at each level.

“Miller consistently puts the barrel on the ball from the right side of the plate and can handle velocity as well as breaking balls, with a tendency to get fooled by changeups his lone weakness at the plate,” the scouting report said. “An intelligent hitter, he controls the strike zone and understands how pitchers will try to work him. His strength and bat speed give him 20-homer potential, mostly to his pull side, and he also will lace line drives to the opposite field.”

Questions do pop up about Miller’s ability to stay at third base as his career progresses. An outfield spot is more likely according to MLB.com with the potential ability to play first base at some point.
