Micah Parsons addresses possibly being highest-paid defender in NFL, timeline for contract extension
Dallas Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons is among the best, most impactful players in the NFL on either side of the ball. And his abilities have him in line to get paid as well as any non-quarterback in the league.
But the Cowboys edge rusher said this week he’s less caught up in being the highest-paid defender. He’s mostly concerned with getting a hefty payday that still allows the Cowboys to have talent around him, he said, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

“It would be nice to be surrounded by good players,” Parsons said, after saying being the highest paid defender would certainly be nice. “Players are going to help you win championships. I want to keep as many guys as possible. … I want to work with them as much as possible.”
Parsons continued, adding that he’s just looking to get paid enough to be comfortable — and by the water. And perhaps more importantly than the money, Parsons spoke to the timeline of a new deal, and hopes one can get done before the 2025 Cowboys training camp begins.
“I don’t need $40 million per year. I need to be somewhere where I can have a lake house,” Parsons said.

Parsons is playing on the fourth year of his rookie deal, and will be under contract with a team option for 2025 if a contract extension is not reached. Parsons is set to make a shade more than $24 million for the 2025 league year if a contract extension isn’t reached.
A trade of Parsons was recently broached with owner Jerry Jones
Parsons is not going anywhere, according to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The franchise owner revealed Tuesday that the star pass rusher was not a part of any trade discussions.
“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on 105.3 The Fan said there is no truth to any story about the Cowboys being interested in trading Micah Parsons,” Machota wrote on Twitter. “Jones said words on that topic have ‘never been uttered in this organization.’”
It was a bold statement, considering where the Cowboys are as an organization at the moment. Dallas is 6-8 following a win over the Carolina Panthers, but won’t make the playoffs and previously lost QB Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury.
