Micah Parsons contract dispute: Adam Schefter gives troubling update on Monday Night Countdown

ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided the latest on the contract dispute between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Countdown. Schefter says there have not been discussions between the two in months. Parsons remains with the team and present at practice but is not out there going through drills in pads.
“Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys have made no progress to a new contract,” Schefter said. “They haven’t even had contract discussions throughout the last few months.”
Schefter saying “the last few months” lines up with a one-on-one conversation Jones had with Parsons. It’s one Parsons referenced in a statement released while requesting a trade. Originally thought to be a general discussion about his future, Jones thought a negotiation was taking place.
Parsons revealed when his agent, David Mulugheta, got involved, talks fell into a blackhole. And according to Schefter, nothing else has come up since.
“Yes, I engaged in a back and forth in regards to what I wanted from my contract but at no point did I believe this was supposed to be a formal negotation and I informed Mr. Jones afterward my agent would reach out thinking this would get things done,” Parsons said on Aug. 1 via X. “But when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam he was told the deal was pretty much done. My agent of course told him that wasn’t the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones. Again the team decided to go silent.”

Parsons is still around the Cowboys following the team’s second preseason game. Photos have even been taken of him in near proximity of Jones at practices. Still, nothing has come about, nor have public conversations taken place. Based on the previous statement from Parsons, maybe an interaction between the two would be counterproductive.
As we appear to be in quite a stalemate, all eyes are on Sept. 4. The Cowboys head up to Philadelphia for opening night of the NFL season, going up against the Eagles. If Parsons is not on the field, the whole situation will be taken to a new level.
There is still plenty of time between now and then. Dallas hosts Atlanta on Friday night for the final preseason game of the year. From there, final roster decisions will be made. Parsons will be part of the final 53, no question, even if a new contract has not been agreed upon.
