In Dallas, all eyes are on Micah Parsons as he looks for a new contract. The Cowboys star is searching for a long-term deal, but nothing has come together as training camp continues to roll along.

Cowboys legend Michael Irvin shared his thoughts on what Jerry Jones should do. He called for Parsons to receive a Patrick Mahomes-type contract.

Mahomes has the richest deal in the NFL after signing a 10-year, $450 million contract in 2020. Irvin wants to see Parsons receive that same contract, pointing out Jones can maneuver the salary cap in the process while also bringing an end to the situation.

“I think what they should do with Micah Parsons is make him that generational type player,” Irvin said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Do the same thing with Micah Parsons as the Kansas City Chiefs have done with Patrick Mahomes. If I’m Jerry, I’m stepping up right now and trying to give Micah Parsons a 10-year, $450 million deal – $45 [million] a year. And that’s over 10 years, so you can spread that out and put a lot on the back end to help with the cap and give him the money right now. I want [the Cowboys] to do what they did with Patrick Mahomes right here. And then, you can always go into his contract to help with other contracts.

“Micah Parsons isn’t going anywhere. He sings the praise. He loves The Star, and he’s a great, great player to have for The Star. I don’t understand it. Dak [Prescott], I understand. Micah Parsons is supposed to be done right now. That’s the disappointing part. Right now, if the Cowboys have Micah Parsons done, it would be full steam ahead going into the season.”

Parsons’ contract situation remains one of the biggest storylines around the Cowboys as the calendar flips to August. The two sides reportedly could be farther apart on a deal than they were earlier in the offseason, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, meaning they’re still at an impasse.

But Irvin also warned Jones to make sure things stay amicable. He specifically pointed out the comments about Trevon Diggs’ docked pay for not working out with the team while saying the Cowboys have to avoid Parsons’ situation taking a turn for the worse.

“Jerry has to be careful because you don’t pay Micah Parsons after you alienated, somewhat, Trevon Diggs – even bringing out that he’s getting his money deducted,” Irvin said. “I thought you should’ve just left that in-house. Just deduct the $500,000 and leave the rest in-house. You don’t have to tell the media. Because now, the next day, I see Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs together standing talking about Micah Parsons saying, ‘I want my money.’

“Three days before that, he was saying, ‘I’m good. I’m taking my time, I’m overpaid. Things will work out.’ And then, three days later, he was singing a different tone. Jerry has to be careful about that.”
