Micah Parsons contract negotiations: Conflicting reports emerge on talks between Cowboys, star pass rusher

In a crucial offseason for Dallas Cowboys star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, conflicting reports have emerged on his future. Specifically, over a report that he’s had discussions about a long-term contract extension with the franchise.
WFAA reported late Tuesday night that owner Jerry Jones had called in Parsons to discuss a potential deal in detail. That was according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
But, as that news set fire to Twitter, dissenting voices emerged. Jane Slater of the NFL Network pushed back against the report.
“While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked,” Slater wrote on Twitter. “Not only is it NOT done but what would be characterized as meaningful talks haven’t even begun yet per two sources informed.”
Slater would follow up further. She posted a second tweet.
“I have no reason to believe it won’t be done or can’t be done soon just telling you I now have 3 sources telling me deal isn’t done and 2 telling me they wouldn’t characterize the talks as meaningful enough right now to put pen to paper,” she wrote. “Reading between the lines? Communication has begun but they aren’t there yet.”
Obviously Dallas would like to keep the talented pass-rusher, but at what cost? Micah Parsons can command one of the biggest deals in the game.

Some have floated the idea of a trade. Could that suit Dallas better?
ESPN’s Tim Hasselbeck called it a fair question when host Mike Greenberg pondered the trade possibility. He weighed in on the Micah Parsons saga.
“I think it comes down to whether you’re factoring in that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are repeat offenders, you know,” Hasselbeck said. “I mean, the reality is, this is what they do with their star players. And so if you’re factoring that in, then maybe you look at it through a different lens, but yeah, look, I think they’re so far away from the other teams in their division that I think it’s a very reasonable argument to say, ‘Look, why don’t we do this? Why don’t we move him and start the rebuild?
“‘Because we’re really far from Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. We’re really far from what Philadelphia is doing with Jalen Hurts and so a reset and a rebuild makes sense as well.’”
Parsons finished the 2024 season with 43 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He has had double digit sacks in each of his four NFL seasons, totaling 52.5 since coming out of Penn State.
For now, the drama will remain ongoing around Micah Parsons. Stay tuned.
