Micah Parsons injury update: Mike McCarthy shares latest on Cowboys EDGE, chances to play vs. 49ers
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy gave an update on edge rusher Micah Parsons who continues to deal with an ankle injury. While speaking to reporters on Thursday, McCarthy revealed Parsons’ chances of playing on Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.
“Micah is improving. He’ll be part of the rehab group today” McCarthy said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “We don’t have him set for reps.”
McCarthy was then asked what he would need to see from Parsons for him to play this week. “Well, there’s always a threshold of return to play,” he explained. “He’s not over that threshold yet. Until he can get out there and cut it loose, I think when you have veteran players, the general is if they don’t practice on Saturday they’re not going to play in the game. If you’re looking for a finish line, it would be full participant player in Saturday’s practice.
“Obviously, you’d like to have him go in pads first on Thursday, but Micah has played a lot of football for us. He has a high understanding of our defense. That’s kind of a general approach that I’ve always taken.”

Micah Parsons did not practice on Wednesday and has not played since suffering the injury against the New York Giants on Sept. 26. On Monday, the Penn State alum revealed that he’s not sure if he will be ready to play on Sunday night.
“It’s still in the air, obviously,” he said on Monday, per the Cowboys’ official website. “It’s more than just me. I got to clear with [Cowboys’ trainer Britt Brown], the coaches, and the head coach. They want to make sure, because there’s so many more games left, that I come back at the best result. So, sometimes it’s not always the players. It was more the people in the higher pay grade.”
Parsons added: “I don’t think there’s anything I can’t do physically. Like I said, it’s just more they want to make sure I’m at my best and they kind of know what my best looks like, and so it’s just one thing that just got to keep working and showing it. They’re monitoring the situation.”
