Micah Parsons has a chance to play this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons. However, Dallas Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones “would call it a long shot.”

Jones revealed the news to the San Antonio Sports Star, via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota on Thursday. Parsons has been sidelined with a high-ankle sprain since Week 4 and has only been able to practice with the rehab group this week.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Parsons is “not quite there yet.” However, the update from Jones maintains a bit of hope that the star LB will suit up against the Falcons.

However, Parsons believes he’s ready to take the field, however, the Cowboys are waiting to put him back into the lineup at the right time.

“I don’t think there’s anything I can’t do physically,” Parsons said of his injury status, per the Cowboys’ official website. “Like I said, it’s just more they want to make sure I’m at my best and they kind of know what my best looks like, and so it’s just one thing that just got to keep working and showing it. They’re monitoring the situation.”

In four games this season, Parsons has totaled 14 tackles and one sack before getting injured earlier this season.

Parsons was listed as a non-participant in practice on Wednesday. Whether that condition improves over the next couple of days leading into the weekend remains to be seen.

The Cowboys are going to need all the help they can get as they are facing a Falcons team that is on top of the NFC South with a 5-3 record. The Cowboys have lost their last two games but are coming off a bye, so they have had plenty of time to prepare for the Falcons.

The opening kickoff between the Cowboys and Falcons is set for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on FOX. Dallas is a three-point underdog heading into the contest.
