Micah Parsons opens up about Mike McCarthy's coaching style: 'Truly great coach'
Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons has a lot of respect for his head coach, Mike McCarthy.
Parsons, making an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday, called McCarthy a “truly great coach,” and one of the most genuine coaches in the NFL.
“It’s been the same with Mike,” Parsons said. “Since I first got here, he’s been a guy who has showed the upmost respect for all his players and takes care of his guys. Finds ways for us to recover, finds ways for us to get better and pushed us to the limit. And you know, he doesn’t cross boundaries. Big family oriented guy. He’s a truly great coach and a great guy. I would actually hate to ever see anyone like him go. He’s more nice than any other coach in the NFL, and I think sometimes, people try to take that for granted because of how nice and genuine he is.”
McCarthy, in his fourth season in Dallas, is coming off back-to-back 12-win campaigns. Despite the success, the 2010 Super Bowl champion entered the season on the hot seat, with team owner Jerry Jones perhaps looking to make a splash move this upcoming offseason. Winning cures all, however, and through two games, the Cowboys look legit.

The Cowboys’ defense has surrendered just 10 points combined to the New York Giants and New York Jets, leading many to believe the best defense in the league resides in Dallas. Parsons, the two-time runner-up for the AP Defensive Player of the Year Award, has once again been the lynchpin.

In Weeks 1 and 2, both Cowboys wins, Parsons recorded 3.0 sacks with seven tackles (six solo) and a forced fumble. In other words, Parsons remains as dominant in year three as he was when he entered the league in 2021 and bursted onto the scene with 13.0 sacks.
Sitting among the sack leaders in the NFL and seemingly owning rent in opposing backfields, it might be hard to believe there’s even more to Parsons’ game. But according to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, that’s exactly the case.
“He has really worked his [butt] off this offseason,” Quinn said Monday. “He’s faster, his hands are better, his rushing is better. That jump that you hoped somebody would make, he was intentional about the work that he put in. He’s definitely playing better than he ever has, which is saying a lot. You haven’t seen it all yet, for sure.”
