Micah Parsons was not happy to hear that Mike McCarthy is no longer the Dallas Cowboys head coach. On The Edge podcast, Parsons said it’s “devastating” to hear that the Cowboys have parted ways with McCarthy.

“He’s always been good to us,” Parsons said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Losing a great coach like Mike hurts. It’s gonna be a very interesting offseason. It’s gonna be a complete reset. I trust that we’re gonna make the right decisions.

“… As one of the leaders of this team, I’m gonna be looking forward to accepting all challenges and embrace whatever comes to help lead my team to a championship. We gotta move on. We can’t think about the past. “… There are no setbacks. Some of the greatest players learn to adjust.

… At the end of the day, coaches can only do so much. Us as players, we got to build a winning culture. I said we’re gonna hold the (Super Bowl) trophy because I believe in our guys.”

Micah Parsons supported Mike McCarthy after the 2024 season ended

Parsons’ comments about McCarthy aren’t surprising since he backed his former head coach once the season ended. “I thought he did very well, I felt like obviously for what he’s had, he definitely made an impact,” the star edge rusher said, earlier this month, per the Cowboys’ official website. “It’s definitely challenging because anytime you lose your starting quarterback… it’s the most challenging part.”

Parsons added: “I appreciate Mike for everything he’s done for me and the program if this was our last ride. He’s always been a great man, a great father, a great testament of faith since he’s been here so I appreciate him.”

McCarthy was the head coach of the Cowboys from 2020 to 2024 and posted a 49-35 record with two NFC East titles. After the Cowboys ended the 2024 season with a 7-10 record, McCarthy made the case for him to stay in Dallas.

“Absolutely. I have a lot invested here, and the Cowboys have a lot invested in me,” McCarthy said. “And then there’s a personal side to all these decisions. So, they all point in the right direction.”

McCarthy added: “I don’t like to talk about myself that way, but I’ll just be clear: I’m a winner. I know how to win. I’ve won a championship. I won a championship in this building. And that’s who I am. We’ll see where it goes.”
