Micah Parsons shares Richard Sherman gave him a 'long lecture' about Packers loss
Micah Parsons is getting advice from NFL legends to help him become a better player for the Dallas Cowboys. While speaking to reporters earlier this week, Parsons opened up about having a long conversation with Richard Sherman.
“I actually talked to Richard Sherman,” Parsons said. “Richard Sherman kind of gave me a long lecture while we was at the Super Bowl. He’s like ‘Man I can’t believe you guys lost that.”
Sherman was referring to the Cowboys playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs last season. Parsons admitted that the loss negatively impacted him.
“I was like so distraught about it. I just couldn’t believe it,” Parsons said while also mentioning Sherman, Ray Lewis, Tom Brady and Andrew Whitworth are his mentors. During the Cowboys’ preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Parsons was seen having a conversation with Brady who will call the team’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

“Honestly, it was a deep conversation [teammates and I] had last year before the playoffs and guys were like, ‘You’ve gotta bring us along with you, and you can’t be on this journey alone, if you’re mister All-Pro,'” Parsons revealed. “It was a reality check for me. I went to my mentors this offseason like, ‘How do I approach this? How do I get better at this because this is a task I’ve never had to take on in my life? My whole life it’s been ‘Micah’s gonna do what Micah’s gotta do,’ and I just expected everyone else to do that.”
Micah Parsons talks being a better leader in 2024
Parsons has emerged as one of the top defensive players in the NFL over the last three seasons. He won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021 and has been named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro Team the last three years. The 25-year-old is now looking to be more of leadership as the Cowboys look to make a Super Bowl run.
“You learn that leadership means some people do need a pat on the back and some people do need a push that tells them you need a little bit more out of [them], because everyone’s not built the same and everyone doesn’t have the same mindset,” he said. “I think it was a harsh reality check within myself. I’ve gotta do what I gotta do to make myself better, but also to bring along other guys. I feel like I needed that, and I’m glad I had that conversation early on [in my career].”
