Micah Parsons trade request: Dallas Cowboys star LB not attending Thursday practice

The dispute between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons took an interesting turn on Thursday. Jon Machota of The Athletic pointed out that when the Cowboys began practice on Thursday, there was no sign of the star linebacker.
Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that there was no sign of Parsons or Cowboys owner Jerry Jones 20 minutes into practice. This came after Parsons requested a trade from the Cowboys since he had not received a contract extension. With Parsons and Jones not at practice, it’s likely they are working to get a new contract done. However, Jane Slater of the NFL Network said, “Currently being told nothing is happening. Micah Parsons is still at camp and does not appear any talk behind the scenes.
It looked as if a new deal for Parsons was on the way, but contract negotiations have broken down over the last few weeks. Ultimately, it has led to Parsons asking for a trade.
Micah Parsons’ agent explains contract dilemma with Cowboys
On Wednesday, 105.3 The Fan’s Bobby Belt revealed the timeline between the contract dilemma, according to Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta. “After the 2024 season, [Mulugheta] saw [Stephen Jones] at the combine and told him that [he and Micah Parsons] were open to business,” Belt said. “We’re ready to do a deal and ready to work on an extension if you guys want to. [Dallas] is disputing the claim that they haven’t wanted to get a deal done because they’ve wanted to wait.

“David said no and told them we were ready to go and he said the Cowboys told them they had a lot of things they’ve got to work through, particularly Dak [Prescott]‘s contract. That’s priority at the moment. He said they totally understood it and went ‘handle what you’ve got to handle and we understand it because that’s a pressing issue. But just to let you know, we’re open for business when you guys are done with that.”
The Cowboys selected Parsons in the first round (12th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft. In four seasons, Parsons has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times, named to the All-Pro Team three times and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021.
